EQT, the same company facing class-action lawsuits from landowners who claim their rights have been trampled, is seeking to have the counties’ ordinances invalidated on a legal technicality dating back to the mid-1990s. If the Wise County Circuit Court ruled in the company’s favor, local leaders say, it could be enough to bankrupt the entire region.

Proposed sale of power plant involves switch to natural gas

The Salem Harbor Power Station could be sold to a natural gas energy company. The plant confirmed that is negotiating to sell the plant to New Jersey-based Footprint Power. The power station pays $4.75 million a year in taxes, and is Salem’s largest taxpayer.
