Albemarle police ID person of interest in Alberene shooting

Albemarle County police are investigating a shooting in the south-county village of Alberene that wounded one person Wednesday.

The county’s police and fire departments responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Alberene Road around 9:43 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police statement.

"Upon arrival, responders discovered one person had received a superficial wound from a shot fired from a vehicle in the driveway of the residence," police said.

That victim, however, declined treatment offered by responding paramedics, police added.

While a person of interest has been identified, authorities said the investigation remains open.
