Body found in smoldering car in Nelson County

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office found a dead body inside a burnt-out vehicle in the Gladstone area Sunday morning.

Deputies were dispatched at about 9 a.m. to Norwood Road near the intersection of Richmond Highway, according to a statement from Nelson County Sheriff Mark Embrey. Upon arrival, deputies observed a vehicle sitting off Norwood Road that was destroyed by fire, Embrey wrote.

The fire was put out but still smoldering as deputies arrived, according to the statement. A local fire department responded to the scene at the sheriff’s office request for precautionary purposes, Embrey said.

Deputies said they located an unresponsive individual inside the vehicle. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for identification.
