Charlottesville police are investigating a reported stabbing in the city’s 10th & Page neighborhood that sent a man to the emergency room Wednesday morning.
Officers were dispatched to the University of Virginia ER around 12:02 p.m. Wednesday after a wounded man arrived at the hospital earlier that day.
The man was identified as Charlottesville resident Walter Jones.
"Mr. Jones suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was able to walk into the UVA ER under his own power," police said in a statement issued later in the day.
Jones is believed to have been stabbed sometime Wednesday morning in the 900 block of West Street in the city, a residential area directly behind a commercial stretch of Preston Avenue home to shops, restaurants and bars.
The suspect in the stabbing was described as a tall Black man in his early to mid-60s wearing all black clothing.
"At this time, this is believed to be an isolated incident," police said in their statement.
The investigation is ongoing, they said, and anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000.
