An elderly man died Monday night in a house fire in rural Orange County.
The fire was ignited at about 10:10 p.m. Monday at a residence on Browning Road about equidistant from the communities of Locust Grove, Unionville and Racoon Ford.
The 81-year-old resident of the house, Elmer Corbin, died at the scene due to his injuries, according to Virginia State Police.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Virginia State Police’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation Culpeper Field Office investigate the case, according to state police spokesman Sgt. Brent Coffey.
State police have transported Corbin’s remains to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas for examination and autopsy, according to Coffey.
“The cause and origin of the fire is undetermined, but the fire does not appear suspicious in nature,” Coffey said in a statement issued Thursday. “The investigation remains ongoing.”
