Four local breweries have teamed up to develop new custom beers to raise awareness and funds for Charlottesville’s Sexual Assault Resource Agency.
Four different versions of Simcoe for SARA have been created, and each takes a different approach to play up the citrus flavors and earthy undertones of Simcoe, a popular American hop variety.
The four breweries scheduled release parties to introduce the brews to the public and call attention to SARA’s work in the Charlottesville community to help eliminate sexual violence and work with survivors of all ages and genders.
The first event took place April 1 at Decipher Brewing, which served its old-school West Coast IPA.
At 5 p.m. Friday, SuperFly Brewing Company will serve S.A.R.A. Smile, which is its version of a New England IPA.
Högwaller Brewery will unveil its small-batch American Wheat Ale at a release party set for 5 p.m. Thursday.
Selvedge Brewing has created a Simcoe for SARA Hazy IPA, featuring a blend of tropical and trademark Simcoe citrus and pine notes, that it will present at noon April 20 in its new Bellair taproom at 2415 Ivy Road.
Part of the proceeds from each beer will benefit SARA, which offers free, confidential help to sexual assault survivors and their families in Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson counties.
