Velocity, the only urgent care center in downtown Charlottesville and part of a 17-strong string of such medical centers, recently came under the sole ownership of Sentara Health. The Norfolk-based nonprofit company announced Monday that it took control of the former joint venture from an unnamed third party in mid-November. The Charlottesville Velocity opened a year ago in Sentara’s new medical office building at the corner of East High Street and Locust Avenue. The 43,318 square-foot structure stands in the shadow of the longtime home of Sentara’s Charlottesville predecessor, Martha Jefferson Hospital.
