Levy gets facelift as old opera house is transformed into future courts complex

Work continues on the old Levy Opera House in downtown Charlottesville on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024. Workers from W.A. Lynch Roofing replace the terne metal roof, as part of an overhaul on the building that will soon be the headquarters of the Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. That headquarters will be part of a $37 million joint Charlottesville-Albemarle court complex on the city’s historic Court Square. "What we’re putting on there should not need to be painted for 30 years," Lynch Vice President Jack Masloff told The Daily Progress. "It’s a challenge because it’s a tight site." Maryland-based Grunley Construction Company is the project’s lead contractor.
