A Schuyler man has been arrested in connection with a shooting reported this past April.
James "Jeff" Jeffrey Harris, 27, was charged Wednesday with abduction, shooting with intent to maim or kill, using a firearm in commission of a felony, recklessly handling a firearm and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office said its investigation began in the early hours of April 6, when it received a complaint of shots fired in the 900 block of Rockfish Crossing in Schuyler.
A person identified as a victim told deputies that Harris had "approached, made demands and committed an assault."
"A firearm was discharged during the incident," the sheriff’s office said in a statement. "Mr. Harris fled the scene before law enforcement arrived."
Deputies said they processed the scene and collected evidence. Arrest warrants were subsequently filed.
It was seven months before Harris was taken into custody.
Announcing his arrest, the sheriff’s office thanked partner agencies who helped in his capture.
"The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office thanks the US Marshals Service Task Force, the Albemarle County Police Department for their assistance and the multitude of citizen tips which helped get Mr. Harris in custody and make our community safer today," the sheriff’s office said.
Harris remains in custody at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
