Man hospitalized after shooting on Charlottesville Downtown Mall

A man has been hospitalized after a shooting on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to Charlottesville police, who have not announced any charges or identified a suspect, officers were patrolling the 200 block of East Market Street around 1:45 a.m. Saturday when they heard gunshots.

The shots came from the 200 block of West Main Street near the western terminus of the Mall, police reported, where officers found several shell casings upon arriving at the scene.

A 35-year-old Charlottesville resident was injured in the gunfire, police said. He was transported to University of Virginia Medical Center where he was listed as being in stable condition later Saturday morning. His identity has not been revealed.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
