Charlottesville police are searching for a man accused of assaulting two people on the Rivanna River Trail Friday.
Officers were first dispatched to trail around 10 a.m. after a woman reported she had been assaulted between Riverside Park and Free Fridge.
"Officers quickly arrived and began searching for a suspect, but were unable to locate one," police said in a statement issued Friday evening.
Hours later, another call came in; this one at 2:40 p.m.
Police said a second victim reported they had been assaulted near the same location as the first an hour prior to the initial call.
"Neither victim sustained any physical injury," police said.
The suspect in both reports was described as a thin, White man standing 6-foot-2 between 20 and 30 years old.
"He was described as wearing a brown puffy jacket in one incident and black pants and a sweatshirt in the second," police said. "Witnesses say he may have been wearing over-the-ear headphones as well."
Charlottesville officers were conducting additional patrols along the trail Friday afternoon and will continue to do so through the weekend, the police department said.
Anyone with any information regarding either reported incident is encouraged to contact the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000.
