Multi-vehicle collision reported on 250 Bypass in Charlottesville

Several vehicles were damaged and traffic was limited to one lane on part of the U.S. 250 Bypass in Charlottesville after a multi-vehicle collision Monday afternoon.

Despite the significant damage, there were no major injuries to report at the scene of the wreck, authorities said.

The Charlottesville Fire Department reported that fire and police crews responded to a reported collision on the eastbound side of the Bypass between Barracks Road and Emmet Street around 3:25 p.m. Monday.

When first responders arrived, they found four damaged vehicles, including a dump truck.

Firefighters on the scene said it is believed that the driver of the dump truck lost control of its brakes before the collision. In photos shared by the fire department, the dump truck can be seen crashed into one of the stone walls bordering the Bypass.

"There are no major injuries reported at this time," the fire department said in a statement.

Authorities limited traffic to one eastbound lane as they worked the scene Monday afternoon and warned motorists to expect a heavy fire and police presence in the area for some time.
