Multiple shots fired in Charlottesville's Venable neighborhood

Charlottesville police are on the scene after multiple gunshots were fired in the city’s Venable neighborhood Saturday night.

There were no reports of any injuries or property damage.

Witnesses said they heard anywhere from six to 12 shots, and police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Stewart Circle around 7:45 p.m.

"Upon arrival, multiple shell casings were found," police said in a statement.

A heavy police presence should be expected in the area as officers investigate, police said.

Saturday’s gunfire comes less than 24 hours after a shooting on the city’s Downtown Mall sent one man to the hospital. Police have announced no charges or suspects in that case. The victim, who has not been identified, was listed in stable condition at University of Virginia Medical Center Saturday.
