State and Charlottesville local law enforcement are investigating a death associated with a vehicle fire at Fontaine Research Park early Sunday morning.
“At approximately 5:18 a.m. this morning, the Charlottesville Fire Department responded to 480 Ray C. Hunt Drive for a report of a vehicle fire,” the University of Virginia Police Department said in a statement later Sunday.
The address is the location of the Sheridan G. Snyder Translational Research Building, which houses the UVa School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging research.
“Upon arrival, they found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames,” UVa police said.
After the fire department extinguished the flames, police and fire crews remained on the scene to investigate the incident.
State law enforcement has been called in to investigate a death related to the fire. That relation has not been explained by local or state police.
“The University of Virginia Police Department, along with Virginia State Police and the Charlottesville Fire Department, are currently investigating a death associated with this vehicle fire,” UVa said in its statement. “The deceased is not affiliated with the University of Virginia.”
No suspect has been identified or described in police statements.
Law enforcement agencies are asking for the public’s assistance investigating the case.
Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact UVa police at (434) 924-7166.
