Parents, this health resource will help you send your kids back to school

The first day of summer is June 21, and as children prepare to go back to school in the fall, parents will be busy ensuring that their children are up to date on their vaccinations and other health requirements. Many parents find the process of getting their children vaccinated to be overwhelming, with conflicting information available throughout the internet.

The Virginia Department of Health created the Back to School website to give parents many great resources and tips, including a vaccination schedule (PDF download), well-child visits, routine oral health and mental health resources for your child.

The Back to School website is an excellent resource for parents and guardians. If your child is going to school for the first time this year, you will find excellent resources and information to help your kids have a healthy start on their academic journey.

Vaccination is a proven safe, easy and effective way to protect your child against many serious and even life-threatening diseases. For example, since the introduction of the measles vaccine in 1963, fewer than 30 cases have been reported in the U.S. each year.

Use the Back to School website to stay organized with what you need to do before the new school year, and check back regularly to find the most up-to-date resources.
