Police identify Charlottesville man killed in Orange County car crash

Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision near Barboursville that killed one and injured another.

The crash occurred at about 7:36 p.m. Wednesday on Spotswood Trail near the intersection of Albano Road northwest of Barboursville, according Sgt. Brent Coffey.

“A 2006 Honda Element was traveling west on Route 33 when it crossed a double solid yellow centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2009 Volkswagen Beetle,” Coffey said in a statement released Thursday.

The driver of the Honda, 43-year-old Charlottesville resident Marcus L. Paige, died at the scene of the crash. According to investigating officers, he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 20-year-old Gordonsville resident Ciera R. Washington, suffered serious injuries and was flown to University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment. She was wearing a seat belt, police said.

“The crash remains under investigation,” Coffey said.
