Rare chance to hear Central Virginia's own Stephanie Nakasian this Saturday in Charlottesville

Central Virginia’s own Stephanie Nakasian will be bringing vocal variety to a performance at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Front Porch in Charlottesville.

The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU are teaming up to present the show by the Stephanie Nakasian Trio, which includes Richmond pianist and vocalist Lucy Kilpatrick and bassist Karl Kimmel who led a band at the Homestead Resort for more than three decades.

Nakasian’s improvisational skills will be on display not only in songs made famous by Bessie Smith and Alberta Hunter, but also in those by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick.

Tickets are $25 at the door.; they’re $22 for general admission, $18 for paid Charlottesville Jazz Society members and $10 for students. For details, call (434) 249-6191.
