Rock the Block, Wayne Theatre's annual gala, promises music and more

Rock the Block, this year’s annual gala for the Wayne Theatre, will bring music, dinner, dancing and a live auction to Main Street in Waynesboro at 6 p.m. June 7.

Tickets are on sale for the event, which will include music by Everyday People. The band will perform music by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Aerosmith, Wild Cherry and other favorite acts.

The event will begin with cocktails outdoors at a tent on Main Street. A silent auction will be available, and guests are welcome to dance outdoors to the music.

The theater, which first opened as a vaudeville house in 1926, was restored and reopened in 2016 as a performing arts center at 521 W. Main St. The Wayne Theatre campus has expanded with the purchase of the final building on the block. The education programs, renamed Studio Wayne, have found a permanent home in the building at 535 W. Main St., and the building at 531 W. Main St. is being revitalized.

Tickets to the gala are $200, and all proceeds will support community arts education programming. Folks who support the Wayne Theatre’s goals but cannot attend the event are welcome to make donations. Sponsorship opportunities also are available. For information, call Tracy Straight, the theater’s executive director, at (540) 943-9999.
