Selvedge to open its new Bellair location in January

Fans of Selvedge Brewing will have until Friday to visit the taproom in its location at The Wool Factory. Starting in January, Selvedge will have its own space in Bellair.

Selvedge will reopen Jan. 12 in its own dedicated taproom space at 2415 Ivy Road, in the newly restored Bellair Place, according to a news release. The new location will give Selvedge room to grow.

The brewery’s present location, in which it spent three years, will close after last call on Friday to prepare for the transition. When Selvedge reopens in January, it initially will maintain its current Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule with indoor seating for about 100 people. Plans call for adding outdoor seating in the spring.

In the short term, brewing operations will continue offsite, but once the new brewery space is ready, it will have multi-step and decoction capabilities, plus room for horizontal lagering tanks to sharpen focus on traditional lager beer styles, expanded clean-barrel aging and mixed-fermentation projects, and an on-site canning line. Selvedge will be sharing its nearly 5,000 square feet of production space with Snowing in Space, its cold-brew sister brand operated by Grit Coffee.

The Wool Factory will continue to house chef Tucker Yoder’s Broadcloth restaurant and The Workshop, which will serve coffee, wine, pastries and Selvedge beer.

Bread & Table, a Charlottesville-based management group, owns and operates The Wool Factory, Broadcloth, The Workshop, Grit Coffee and Snowing in Space.
