Stabbing at Haven day shelter in downtown Charlottesville sends 1 to hospital

A stabbing at the Haven day shelter for the homeless in downtown Charlottesville left one person hospitalized and the assailant in custody Tuesday afternoon.

Charlottesville police arrived on the scene around 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to police spokesman Kyle Ervin.

“There was a stabbing between 2 individuals at the Haven” Ervin told The Daily Progress. “The suspect is currently in custody, while the victim is at the hospital being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police have not released the identities of either person.

The scene was cleared within an hour, Ervin said.

“There’s no reason the public should avoid the area. This was an isolated disorder between these 2 individuals,” he said.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police.
