Albemarle County police say they recovered an assortment of drugs, including more than 7 pounds of marijuana, from a vehicle occupied by a pair of unconscious men this past weekend.
Units with the Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 29 and Airport Road north of Charlottesville around 11:19 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of two unconscious men sitting in a vehicle in the middle of a travel lane.
“Upon arrival, both occupants of the vehicle were assessed on scene by medical personnel,” police said in a statement. “After further investigation, officers searched the vehicle which yielded various suspected Schedule I and II narcotics, more than seven pounds of marijuana, and a scale.”
The 39-year-old sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle was subsequently charged with driving under the influence, possession of Schedule I narcotics and possession of more than 5 pounds of marijuana with the intent to distribute; additional charges are pending.
Police said the “driver” is being held without bond at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
No charges have been announced for the man sitting in the vehicle’s passenger seat.
Police have not identified either man.
