The FBI is conducting an operation in Charlottesville’s Martha Jefferson neighborhood.
Authorities said Tuesday afternoon that people can expect a heavy police presence in the 800 block of St. Charles Avenue as Charlottesville police officers assist federal agents.
On the scene, that presence is heavily armed and armored.
Shortly before 2 p.m., bystanders outside a residence on St. Charles said they heard what sounded like a "flash-bang" inside.
At 2:43 p.m., The Daily Progress witnessed authorities carry an infant out of the house covered in a jacket and placed in the arms of a woman.
Other details remain scant, but the police have promised more information once the investigation has been completed.
"That is all the info we have at this time," police spokesman Kyle Ervin told The Daily Progress. "The FBI is leading the operation."
This is a developing story.
