A motorist has been charged after striking and killing a pedestrian on Interstate 81 on Sunday in Augusta County.
Austin W. Eavey, a 25-year-old Waynesboro resident, has been charged by Virginia State Police with involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run for the crash that happened before 4 a.m. on Sunday at the 210 mile marker in Augusta County.
State police said an unidentified White man was walking along the southbound lanes of I-81 when he was struck by a vehicle. The victim had no identification. He had a tattoo on his right leg. He carried a backpack and was dressed in black with a hoodie that said “Missouri.” He was wearing white Nike sneakers. The body was taken to the Virginia State Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination, autopsy and identification.
State police are still attempting to identify the victim.
