A New Canton man has been arrested after a shooting in Buckingham County on Monday sent another man to the hospital in critical condition.
Michael Christopher Carrington, 41, has been charged with malicious wounding, using a firearm in commission of a felony, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Buckingham County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Monday to a reported shooting and reported finding a man suffering from a gunshot wound to both legs.
The man was transported to an area hospital while deputies and Virginia state troopers searched a residence in the 2000 block of Slate Hill Road in the New Canton area.
"A search warrant was executed on the residence during which a firearm and ammunition were recovered," the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Carrington was booked at the Piedmont Regional Jail outside Farmville, where he remained in custody as of Friday evening.
