Eight people, including five children, were hospitalized this past Thursday after a school bus was sideswiped by a car and run off the road on Jefferson Highway in eastern Louisa county.
A Rockingham County school bus was carrying students to the Virginia State Fair in Caroline County late Thursday morning when it was struck by a 2003 Subaru Impreza, according to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred on Jefferson Highway near Jouett Elementary School.
Five students and three adults, including the driver of the Impreza, were transported to a nearby hospital for the treatment of minor injuries. The remaining students were moved to the elementary school to be evaluated by emergency medical personnel, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Impreza reportedly told officials he was distracted by something on his phone when he crossed the centerline and struck the front wheel of the bus, sending it off the road.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office has not announced any criminal charges related to the incident.
