Charlottesville police trying to ID man who reportedly shot at occupied car

Charlottesville police are asking for the public’s assistance identifying a suspect in a Tuesday afternoon shooting in the city’s 10th & Page neighborhood.

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Hardy Drive around 4:39 p.m. Tuesday.

"Upon arrival, officers learned from a witness that a male suspect fired two shots at a vehicle occupied by an adult driver and a three-year-old child," the police said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Neither the adult nor the child was injured.

"Security video from the area was collected, as well as a bullet fragment from the victim’s vehicle," police said.

It is believed that the suspect and the victim are acquainted and that it was not a random act of violence.

Police are circulating still images taken from surveillance footage showing the man they believe is responsible for the shooting.

Anyone who recognizes that man or knows anything about the incident is encouraged to contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000.
