A Buckingham County teenager faces multiple charges after police in Albemarle County say he fled a traffic stop earlier this week when he was discovered driving under the influence with a firearm in his passenger seat.
Asiyus Langhorn, a 19-year-old resident of Dillwyn, has been charged with eluding authorities, the reckless handling of a firearm, underage driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to maintain a lane of travel.
An Albemarle officer was traveling in the area of U.S. 29 and Airport Acres Road north of Charlottesville city limits around 11:22 p.m. Sunday when they reported seeing Langhorn behind the wheel of a car and failing to maintain a single travel lane. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and when they approached, they said they could see a firearm and extended magazine in the passenger seat of Langhorn’s vehicle.
Langhorn fled, initiating a vehicle pursuit north on U.S. 29, according to the police.
During the pursuit, multiple Albemarle police officers said they witnessed Langhorn discard the firearm from the passenger-side window.
Langhorn made it roughly 2 miles before he lost control and crashed in the area of Briarwood Drive, police said.
The teenager was taken into custody, and the firearm was retrieved from where Langhorn discarded it.
Langhorn was booked at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail but has since been let out on bond, according to jailhouse records.
