An elderly pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday night while crossing U.S. 29 in Charlottesville’s Meadows neighborhood.
The deceased’s identity is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified, according to police. They were 67 years old.
Officers were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to a reported crash in the 1700 block of Emmet Street North, a high-traffic area near the junction of U.S. 29 and the U.S. 250 Bypass that is home to hotels and big-box stores.
Upon arrival, police said they found the driver of the vehicle involved, who had stayed and cooperated with investigators, and the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
