Elderly pedestrian struck, killed in Scottsville

An elderly woman is dead after the driver of a vehicle that had dropped her off outside the Scottsville Shopping Center Sunday afternoon then struck and killed her.

The deceased has been identified as 93-year-old Noreen Wilbourn of Esmont.

Wilbourn had been a passenger in the vehicle that struck her, according to Albemarle County police. She exited the vehicle outside Scottsville Shopping Center Sunday afternoon.

“While backing out of a parking space, the driver of the vehicle reversed and struck Ms. Wilbourn with the passenger side front door, knocking her to the ground,” the police said in a statement.

Albemarle County police were dispatched around 1:26 p.m. to a reported motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

“Upon arrival, first responders located a 93-year-old woman in life-threatening condition that had been struck by a vehicle,” police said. “First responders attempted life-saving measures.”

Wilbourn was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
