Former Louisa County school employee charged with bestiality

A former Louisa County school employee has been charged with bestiality.

Bailey Michael Hobbs, 24, was arrested Tuesday and charged with the multiple counts of sexual abuse of an animal, which falls under “crimes against nature” in the Virginia Code.

Following a lead from an ongoing investigation, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant April 14 at a residence in the 100 block of Ellis Drive in the private, gated subdivision of Blue Ridge Shores on Lake Louisa.

“During the execution of the warrant, several electronic devices were seized for forensic examination,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement issued Wednesday. “Upon reviewing the contents of one of the devices, which was determined to belong to Bailey Michael Hobbs, investigators discovered illegal images.”

Hobbs was taken into custody a week later and booked at Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange before he was released on bond.

Hobbs was a part-time audio and sound technician for stage productions at Louisa County High School hired in September 2023, school division spokesman Andrew Woolfolk told The Daily Progress.

“Mr. Hobbs is no longer associated with LCPS and is not allowed on school property,” Woolfolk said in an email.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that none of the materials seized in its raid of the Blue Ridge Shores residence included any child pornography.

According to court records, Hobbs is expected to appear in Louisa County General District Court May 8 for a hearing.

The investigation into Hobbs is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at (540) 967-1234. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact the Louisa Crime Solvers tip line at (800) 346-1466.
