Greene County authorities have launched a crackdown on illegal hunting, and it’s already bagged one culprit.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office launched its new operation on Nov. 22 after receiving multiple complaints of illegal hunting activities around Snow Mountain in western Greene County.
Neighbors reported hunters shooting from the roadway on Snow Mountain Road, trespassing on private property and spotlighting, or using a high-power light to locate and illuminate animals at night.
As a result of the operation, one man has already been charged.
Benjamin Jenkins has been charged with discharging a firearm from a roadway.
“The Greene County Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to report any illegal hunting activities to the Sheriff’s Office, as this poses a serious threat to public safety,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement announcing the crackdown.
