A school resource officer in Greene County is being investigated for alleged misconduct with a student.
Eli Hounsel, a sheriff’s deputy assigned to protect students and staff at William Monroe High School just outside Stanardsville, has allegedly engaged in inappropriate behaviors with a student at the school.
“My job is still doing their investigation so I would like to refrain from speaking about it until that is finished,” Hounsel told The Daily Progress in an email Monday.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to a Daily Progress inquiry, saying it does not comment on personnel matters, but did it confirm there was an incident involving Hounsel.
Hounsel was previously employed by the Charlottesville Police Department. His reason for leaving is unclear and the police department did not immediately respond to a Daily Progress request for more information, including how long he was employed in Charlottesville and why he parted ways with its law enforcement arm.
“One thing I’ve learned is that cops HATE bad cops,” Hounsel posted to Facebook on June 2, 2020, while still employed by the Charlottesville Police Department.
According to court documents, Hounsel was found to have sufficient evidence against him in an Albemarle County court case for unauthorized use of a tracking device in 2022. The misdemeanor charge was dismissed in 2023 in a deferred disposition.
The Daily Progress confirmed that Hounsel was not at William Monroe High School on Monday. However, Hounsel is still listed as a sergeant on the Greene County Sheriff’s Office staff webpage.
