Fluvanna County authorities have opened an investigation after a person with a gunshot wound was dropped off early Monday near the main entrance of the Lake Monticello subdivision.
The name of the injured has not been released to the public, and the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office said their condition is unknown, though they were transported to a nearby hospital.
Deputies were dispatched around 2:10 a.m. Monday to the 857 Jefferson Drive entrance of Lake Monticello.
“Units arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound and indications of an assault,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Rescue personnel arrived and the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.”
The sheriff’s office said it has little information as to where the shooting occurred or who was responsible, but there is no evidence there is any threat to the public.
“Investigators are currently working to determine the physical location of the shooting,” the sheriff’s office said.
