The bridge carrying Old Ivy Road over the U.S. 250 Bypass west of Charlottesville has been reopened after it was struck and damaged by a commercial vehicle late last month.
Repairs to the bridge beams have been completed, the Virginia Department of
Transportation announced Saturday.
“All work and inspections are now complete, and the bridge is open to traffic,” VDOT said in a statement. “Northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 29/250 are also fully open in both directions.”
The Old Ivy Road bridge, built in 1961, has been under rehabilitation since February.
After the crash was reported shortly after noon Sept. 29, VDOT said in a statement, “Virginia Department of Transportation bridge crews and the contractor currently working to replace the bridge responded immediately and determined the bridge will need immediate, temporary repairs before traffic can safely pass under Old Ivy Road bridge. Those repairs will continue around the clock until completed.”
