A “target list of schools” circulating on TikTok caused alarm Wednesday at two Orange County schools.
Local authorities have determined that whatever threat the list posed was not directed at Locust Grove elementary and middle schools, but rather two schools in Georgia with the same names.
"It has come to our attention that some students across the division are discussing a ‘target list of schools,’" Orange County Public Schools said in a statement issued Wednesday. "We have learned that the ‘list’ is actually a list of Georgia Title I schools from the Georgia Department of Education. Some of the schools on the list bear the same name as two of our schools."
The school division in conjunction with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said that after looking into the matter, no threat was ever posed to any local school.
“Together, we can debunk rumors and continue to provide a safe environment for our students," the school division said in its statement.
