A Waynesboro man is in custody after authorities say he held a woman against her will and raped her in a Dooms residence.
Ronald King, 58, has been charged with abduction by force and rape by threat or intimidation.
Augusta County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Nov. 18 to the 400 block of Sandy Ridge Road, where they had received a report of a woman being held against her will.
Deputies said they interviewed the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed to the public, and then transported her to Augusta Health for medical treatment.
King was identified as the suspect in the case and warrants were obtained for his arrest last Friday.
He was arrested at his residence without incident, according to the sheriff’s office, and booked at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
The sheriff’s office initially reported King had been released on bond, but later said he had in fact not.
"At his initial court appearance in the General District Court, the defendant was granted a bond over the objection of the Commonwealth’s Attorney," the sheriff’s office said in a statement. "The Commonwealth’s Attorney subsequently appealed the defendant’s release to the Circuit Court. The defendant will remain held at Middle River Regional Jail until a bond determination can be made by that court on December 3rd. The information released yesterday was incorrect. At no point was Mr. King released on bond."
The investigation into King remains ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
