Albemarle County government offices lose internet

The Albemarle County Office Building on McIntire Road in Charlottesville and the county’s administrative complex on Fifth Street just south of the city lost internet Thursday.

There was no timeline for restoration as of 12:30 p.m., according to a county statement.

“Staff is actively working to assess the impact and correct the disruption,” the statement reads.

The McIntire and Fifth Street offices remain open, the county said, although some operations will be delayed until staff can get back online. Phones are still working, but there may be difficulties with voicemail, the county said.

Early voting at the Fifth Street County Office Building has not been affected, and neither were emergency services operated out of the complex there.

The two outages are roughly 3 1/2 miles away from each other. It was unclear at press time if both county facilities operate using the same internet provider. The county’s neighbors on McIntire, which are Ting Internet customers, said their internet was still operational Thursday afternoon.

County spokeswoman Abbey Stumpf did not immediately respond to a Daily Progress inquiry for additional details.
