Albemarle police searching for suspects in attempted break-in

Albemarle County police are searching for two men they say attempted to break in to a house in a subdivision just west of Charlottesville Saturday night.

The men have been described as Spanish-speaking adults who were wearing all black at the time of the incident.

Police were dispatched around 8:05 p.m. Saturday to a house on Rocks Farm Drive in the Rock subdivision west of Charlottesville city limits.

"The homeowner reported that two individuals were attempting to gain entry into the residence," the county police department said in a statement issued Monday.

While the homeowner was still on the phone with the 911 call center, police said the suspects cut power to the house and entered.

"When the suspects encountered the victim and a dog inside, both suspects fled," according to the police department.

By the time the first officer arrived on the scene, the suspects were both gone.

Police conducted a search of the immediate area for the next four hours with the assistance of drone technology from the Albemarle Fire Marshal’s Office but came up empty-handed.

Anyone in the area with surveillance footage between the hours of 7:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday or information regarding the incident is asked to contact the police department at (434) 296-5807. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000 or crimestoppers@albemarle.org.
