Charlottesville, Albemarle teachers win Golden Apples for excellence in classroom, community

Forty-five teachers working in public and private schools in the city of Charlottesville and surrounding Albemarle County have been recognized for their hard work with a special award and thousands of dollars in grant money.

Ever year for more than two decades, the Golden Apple Awards have honored excellence in the classroom and the community. The contest, sponsored by locally based Better Living Building Supply and Cabinetry, awards each winner a $500 grant for classroom materials or professional development.

Teachers selected for Golden Apple honors are nominated by their peers for their ability to inspire a love for learning in their students, set high expectations, respond to students’ individual needs and maintain connections with families.
