A Charlottesville man faces multiple gun and drug charges after fleeing a traffic stop in Albemarle County and leading police on a car chase this past weekend.
Trevious Sandridge, 33, has been charged with possessing controlled substances, doing so while also in the possession of a firearm, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, possessing a sawed-off shotgun, eluding authorities and providing false identification to law enforcement officers.
Albemarle County police say they encountered Sandridge during a routine traffic stop around 11:45 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of Pantops Corner Way just east of Charlottesville city limits.
"During the traffic stop, the driver provided officers with a false name and Social Security number," police said in a statement issued Monday. "During this interaction, the officer also observed what appeared to be a handgun in the driver’s pocket and asked the driver to place their hands on the steering wheel."
After he was eventually identified as Sandridge, he fled the scene heading east on Richmond Road and into a hotel parking lot near Interstate 64, police reported.
"Pursuing officers were able to safely stop the vehicle where Sandridge was taken into custody without further incident," police said. "A subsequent search revealed Sandridge was in possession of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and a sawed-off shotgun. He was also found to have two outstanding warrants."
Sandridge was taken into custody and booked at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, where he remains without bond.
