Chesterfield man charged with child sex crimes in Charlottesville sting operation

A Chesterfield County man is in custody after Charlottesville police say he attempted to sexually exploit a child in the city.

Ricardo Lopez Solis, 29, has been charged with using a communications system while taking indecent liberties with a minor and using a communications system for the solicitation of a minor.

An investigation was opened on Oct. 1, when a Charlottesville police detective, working undercover as a 14-year-old girl, was contacted by a man who wished to meet and engage in sexual activity.

Six days later, Lopez Solis was arrested at Azalea Park in the city, where police say he intended to have sex with the fictitious teenager.

Lopez Soliz was booked at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, where he remained in custody as of Thursday.
