Motorists in western Albemarle County should keep their eyes peeled for detours as construction gets underway on a new roundabout just east of Crozet.
Work on the roundabout at the intersection of Ivy Road, Browns Gap Turnpike, Rockfish Gap Turnpike and Three Notch’d Road begins Wednesday. Construction on the $5.2 million project is expected to wrap later this winter, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Part of Browns Gap Turnpike north of Three Notch’d Road and Rockfish Gap Turnpike will be closed during construction of the roundabout and the reconstruction of the bridge over nearby Lickinghole Creek.
To reach points north of the closure, passenger vehicles will have to continue west on Three Notch’d Road and then turn right on Old Three Notch’d Road. Southbound traffic will be asked to follow this same detour in reverse.
Trucks and commercial traffic will have to follow a separate detour to reach points north by continuing west on Three Notch’d Road to Crozet Avenue, which will carry traffic back to Browns Gap Turnpike. Southbound commercial traffic will follow this same detour in reverse.
