Man suspected of knowingly placing gun in Waynesboro student's backpack

Waynesboro police are searching for a man suspected of knowingly planting a gun in a student’s backpack Thursday.

Christopher Richard Cook is wanted on three warrants: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with knowledge and intent to possess a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.

A student at Waynesboro’s William Perry Elementary School told a teacher and a school administrator Thursday morning that an adult he knows had planted a gun inside a student’s backpack.

Waynesboro police were able to confirm the gun’s location on school property and took possession of it. Neither students nor staff at William Perry was threatened or ever in danger, police said.
