Teen arrested after gunfire damages property at Albemarle apartments

A teenager faces multiple charges after a property-damaging shooting at an Albemarle County apartment complex this past May, which authorities now say was gang-related.

Albemarle County police have only identified the suspect as a 17-year-old. Juveniles are typically not named in criminal investigations.

The teenager has been charged with attempted malicious wounding, shooting from a vehicle and gang participation.

Officers were dispatched around 9:22 p.m. May 24 to multiple reports of shots fired outside the Brookdale Apartments south of Charlottesville city limits on Country Green Road.

There were no injuries to report at the scene, but multiple residences and vehicles were damaged in the gunfire.

The teenage suspect remains in custody at the Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the matter is encouraged to contact the Albemarle County Police Department at (434) 296-5807 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000.
