Charlottesville and Albemarle County residents were left without answers after two people were injured in a May 1 drive-by shooting outside the Oak Hill Market & Deli on the southern edge of the city.
Now, Albemarle County police say they have a suspect.
Police reported Thursday they had arrested Amir Sumpter, an 18-year-old resident of Charlottesville. Sumpter has been charged with using a firearm in commission of a felony, shooting into a dwelling, participating in a gang and malicious wounding.
Albemarle County officers originally were dispatched around 8:50 p.m. May 1 to a reported shooting at 667 Country Green Road, home to the Oak Hill Market and adjoining Exxon gas station.
Investigators reported that several shots had been fired from a passing car, injuring two, making its getaway before police arrived at the scene. They also said at the time they believed the shooting was gang related.
Sumpter remains in custody at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
