4 shootings reported in 5 hours Monday night across Charlottesville

Charlottesville police are investigating multiple reports of shots fired within a matter of five hours Monday night.

Between 7 p.m. and 12:04 a.m., four shootings were called in. Police could not say if any of them were related, though two occurred within blocks of each other.

There were no injuries to report, but some damage to property.

The first shots fired were reported at 7 p.m. near the intersection of Second Street Southeast and Monticello Avenue across from Ix Art Park in downtown Charlottesville.

“Officers arrived on scene, located shell casings, and identified several parked vehicles that were struck,” police said in a statement issued Tuesday.

The second report came in at 10:21 p.m. on Michie Drive in Charlottesville’s northern Meadows neighborhood near Meadow Creek.

“One unoccupied building was struck,” police said.

The third report came in at 10:29 p.m., this time from the city’s 10th & Page neighborhood.

“Officers and callers overheard gunfire coming from Hardy Dr.,” police said. “No injuries occurred as a result of this incident; nothing is confirmed at this time.”

The fourth and last report came in at 12:04 a.m. from First Street South, mere blocks from the first report. There were no injuries or property damage reported there.

Investigators found multiple shell casings dropped at the four different scenes.

While the shootings occurred closed in time, and two in close proximity to each other, police said they could not say for certain they were related at this point in the investigation.

“We cannot confirm at this time that any of the incidents above are related,” the police department said in a statement.

All four shootings are under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000.
