The Charlottesville man who brandished a firearm at a city employee near City Hall last month pleaded guilty to weapons charges in court this past week.
Toreke Barbour, 31, faces up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a firearm as a convicted felon and brandishing a firearm.
Barbour was taken into custody on Sept. 16 after Charlottesville police responded to a reported threat near the City Hall Annex building on the city’s Downtown Mall next door to City Hall.
“Officers and detectives responded quickly and located a suspect in the area,” police said in a statement later in the day. “That person, Toreke Barbour of Charlottesville, was arrested and charged on location and a firearm was discovered on his person.”
There were no injuries to report at the scene.
The identity of the city employee Barbour threatened has not been released to the public.
Barbour’s sentencing is set for Jan. 7 of next year.
“In addition to any sentence he receives on these charges, Mr. Barbour is also facing the possibility of an additional eight years in prison for a pending probation violation in the Charlottesville Circuit Court,” according to a city statement.
