The man suspected of shooting and injuring another man off Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall last week has been taken into custody.
Gustavo Junior Laurent, 41, was arrested Monday afternoon without incident.
Laurent is suspected of shooting and injuring a man on Market Street in downtown Charlottesville in the early morning hours of July 28.
Officers were patrolling the Mall near the 100 block of East Market Street around 1:38 a.m. July 28 when they were flagged down by a man who said his friend had been shot.
“A 33-year-old male victim was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound and is in stable condition,” the police department said in a statement issued later that same day.
The department described the shooting as “an isolated incident.”
Laurent remains in custody at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, according to jailhouse records.
