Charlottesville police looking for persons of interest after reported assault on Corner

Charlottesville police are investigating a reported assault on the Corner that sent one to the hospital in the early morning hours Sunday.

The police are asking for the public’s assistance identifying two young men as well as the drivers of two vehicles in the area at the time, according to footage obtained from nearby surveillance cameras.

The University of Virginia Police Department said it was alerted to an assault in the 1400 block of University Avenue around 2:06 a.m. Sunday. That address is near the 14th Street intersection on the eastern edge of the UVa-adjacent Corner business district.

“The victim of the assault, an adult male, was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries,” according to a statement issued by Charlottesville police, which have taken over the investigation from UVa police.

Charlottesville police are now circulating multiple still images taken from surveillance cameras in the area of the reported attack.

Anyone with information regarding the persons of interest in the case is encouraged to contact the Charlottesville Police Department at (434) 970-3280 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000.
