An elderly woman has been charged with reckless driving after a two-vehicle collision near Madison town limits last Thursday that killed one and injured three others, including the woman.
Maxine Crenshaw, 77, was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox south on South Main Street around 1:11 p.m. Thursday when she attempted to turn left onto Fairground Road, according to Virginia State Police.
The Equinox collided head-on with a 2018 Toyota Rav 4 traveling north on South Main Street.
A passenger in the Rav 4 sustained serious injuries and was transported to University of Virginia Medica Center in Charlottesville via helicopter. They succumbed to their injuries Saturday.
The driver of the Rav 4, a second passenger in the vehicle and Crenshaw also sustained injuries. The three were transported to UVa Culpeper Medical Center via ambulance.
State police have only identified Crenshaw in public reports.
While charges have been lodged against Crenshaw, the crash remains under investigation, state police said.
